In this project, I designed and fabricated a lightweight double cantilevering structure that was constructed from 52 playing cards in order to support a tennis ball a minimum of 12 inches over a railing.

In my construct, a series of elongated cubes compile to form the final product. The prismatic elements are rotated in the horizontal direction in order to form an array of rectangular prisms that interlock through a system of tabs. This approach allows the joining of the prisms via an interwoven card that helps to support them in the horizontal direction. Structurally, the rectangular prisms transfer the compressive force across each other, strengthening the overall cantilever in order to balance the weight of the tennis ball and counter weight.
